Richard Davis Springle (Dr. Bob) comes to us from New York City where he lives, coaches acting and practices his craft. Born and raised in Norfolk, VA; Richard has been performing since the age of 15 in everything from solo voice with guitar accompaniment to singing with jazz ensembles and symphony orchestras. The only real break in Richard’s performing career was made at the request of Uncle Sam during the Vietnam War, of which Richard is a proud veteran. One of Richard’s fondest theatre accomplishments is a highly successful Off-Broadway nine month run of his one-man show Einstein on New York’s Theatre Row, located on 42nd Street, written and directed by Joel Selmeier. Richard is also no stranger to the craziness of stand-up comedy and comedy improv. He has appeared in over 30 feature films, the NBC mini-series A Woman Called Jackie as Charles Bartlett and the PBS presentation of Simple Justice as historian C. Vann Woodward. Richard may be even more recognizable for his commercial appearances for NY Life Insurance, Tylenol arthritis pain, Sam Adams light beer and as the TV doctor for Flonase nasal spray. Richard especially loves the diversity of the live stage, which has allowed him some favorite roles including colorful characters such as Pap Finn in Big River, Available Jones in Li’l Abner, Squire Alworthy in Tom Jones and the national tour of My Fair Lady as Colonel Pickering. Leading characters include three national tours as Julian Marsh in 42nd Street, El Gallo in The Fantasticks, Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar, Ravenal in Showboat, Frank Butler in Annie Get Your Gun as well as Francisco Pizarro in Peter Shaffer’s The Royal Hunt of the Sun, Professor Allot in Life Class and he was singled out in a New York Time’s review of The Petrified Forest, directed by George Loros, for his performance of Mr. Chisholm, supplying much needed comic relief as an integral part of this intense drama by R. E. Sherwood. Truly inspired to be playing the role of Dr. Bob Smith in this important work chronicling the co-founders of the twelve-step program, Richard would like to dedicate his performance to a higher power, which is present in the heart and soul of every man and inherent in the love of humanity and all life on planet earth.
